Band Members

Craig Park

Joined the band through a court ordered work-release program. No one knows where he is from or what he does when he is not playing pedal steel guitar.

Bill Rider Birthday:  June 15th

Born in Illinois ... in a snowstorm!

Profession:
     Artist
     Professional Art Restoration

Ken Simpson Birthday:  July 8th

Frontman, vocalist and practicing fiddler, Ken has never left Austin except to try and save us all from ourselves at Uncle Sam's invitation to California.

He loves nothing more than a good country tune and to him, they're all good. Ken's version of some sad songs always leaves the entire audience in tears (sometimes intentionally!). Touring with the band this year took Ken north of the river for the first time.  He liked it.

Gordon Fowler

Birthday:  December 15th

Lead guitarist, native Austinite, nightclub czar, painter, chili cook-off judge (he swears he doesn't inhale), defender of freedom, dog lover and boat builder,

Gordon has 'left' many jobs and has earned another Purple Heart with the Sunset Valley Boys, besides having a gin (not cotton) named after him.

A natural fit.

Polk Shelton

Birthday:  June 5th

Music has been an important part of Polk's life since high school, however he stepped back from  performing  and put on his lawyer hat in 1970.

After a long sabbatical from his muse, he formed The Polk Shelton Band and played The Saxon Pub twice a month from 1996 - 2000.
He currently co-hosts an Open Mic on behalf of the Austin Songwriter’s Group.
